Laura Szumowski received her BFA degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2006, with a concentration in graphic books. In 2005, Laura completed an internship with Chicago-based graphic novelist Paul Hornschemeier, where she assisted Paul in coloring his own work, along with the first issue of "Omega Man of Mystery" for Marvel comics. That same year Laura became interested in women's health, and began making books and posters relating to this field of study. Dabbling in print making, Laura interned at Black Hole Press from 2007 to 2008, where she practiced screen printing.

Since 2006, Laura has been self-publishing Tip of the Iceberg, her first book in a series on women's health. She is currently working on her second book in the series, Cycling.

Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Laura currently resides in Chicago with her tiny steeds, Jasper and Twinkie.
